# Best Crypto Exchange for Day Trading: Cost per Trade in 2026

Last Updated: September 15, 2026

The best crypto exchange for day trading is the one where your round trips cost the least at your size. As of September 15, 2026, ten $10,000 taker round trips cost $90 on EVEDEX or Hyperliquid, $100 on Binance, OKX or dYdX, $110 on Bybit, $120 on Bitget and $1,600 on Kraken Pro spot.

Day trading turns small percentages into large numbers. Every position is opened and closed on the same day, often many times, and each leg pays a fee on the full position value. Leverage multiplies that value, so review [how to margin trade crypto](https://evedex.com/en/blog/how-to-margin-trade-crypto/) and the risks of [bitcoin leverage trading](https://evedex.com/en/blog/bitcoin-leverage-trading/) before adding it. A difference of 0.01% per side looks trivial on one trade and becomes hundreds of dollars a month for an active trader. This guide puts the fee schedules of eight exchanges on the same trades, works through three common day trading styles with real numbers, explains which rules still apply to crypto day traders after FINRA's 2026 changes and lists what to check before you pick an exchange. It closes with EVEDEX, including [Funded Trading](https://evedex.com/en/funded-trading/), which trades a bigger nominal while capping the loss at the posted margin.

| Kraken Pro spot | $1,600 at the Tier 1 taker fee of 0.80% | $800 at the Tier 1 maker fee of 0.40% | $96,000 over 30 days, which rules out spot day trading at this tier | Spot fees fall only with high 30-day volume, and there is no leverage on spot |

## Three Day Trading Styles With Real Numbers

**Scalping.** A scalper takes many small moves. Say 40 round trips a day on $5,000 positions, aiming for 0.15% per trade, or $7.50 gross. A taker round trip at 0.045% per side costs $4.50, so fees take 60% of the target. At 0.06% per side the cost is $6.00, or 80%. With limit orders at 0.015% per side, it falls to $1.50, or 20%. For a scalper, the maker rate decides whether the strategy can work at all.

**Intraday trend trading.** A trend trader takes fewer, larger moves: four round trips a day on $20,000, aiming for 1%, or $200. A taker round trip at 0.05% costs $20, which is 10% of the target. Funding matters now, because the position stays open for hours. As an illustration, at a funding rate of 0.01% per 8 hours, a $20,000 position held for 6 hours on EVEDEX, where funding is charged hourly, pays about $1.50. At 10x leverage, the same trade needs $2,000 of margin, and a 1% move against it costs $200, or 10% of that margin.

**Breakout trading.** A breakout trader enters with market orders when price leaves a range, so the taker fee is unavoidable, and slippage is often larger than the fee. On a $10,000 entry, a 0.05% taker fee is $5, while a fill 0.1% worse than the quoted price costs $10. Check depth before trading breakouts on smaller pairs, and review our step-by-step guide on how to margin trade crypto before adding leverage.

## Rules That Still Apply to Crypto Day Traders

The best-known US rule no longer exists in its old form. FINRA's pattern day trader designation, with its $25,000 minimum equity, was replaced by intraday margin standards effective June 4, 2026, with brokers allowed a phase-in until October 20, 2027. That rule covered securities margin accounts at FINRA member brokers, not crypto exchange accounts, while securities such as crypto ETFs in a broker margin account fall under the new standards.

Other restrictions matter more for crypto day traders:

1. **Where you live** Every venue restricts some countries in its terms.
2. **Derivatives bans** The UK Financial Conduct Authority has banned the sale of crypto derivatives to retail consumers since January 6, 2021, and confirmed the ban remains in place.
3. **Leverage caps by region** Kraken caps EU retail derivatives at 10x, while its non-US limit on the BTC perpetual is 100x for the first $1 million.
4. **Taxes** Frequent trading creates many taxable events in most countries. Keep exportable trade records from the first day.

## How to Pick an Exchange for Day Trading

Rank these checks by your style.

1. **Maker fee** Scalpers and range traders who use limit orders should compare maker rates first: 0.01% on dYdX, 0.015% on EVEDEX and Hyperliquid, 0.02% on the large exchanges.
2. **Taker fee** Breakout traders pay taker fees on most entries, from 0.045% on EVEDEX and Hyperliquid to 0.06% on Bitget.
3. **Depth on your pair** Compare the order book at your size, not venue totals. Binance futures traded $65.6B in 24 hours; dYdX traded $34.2M.
4. **Funding schedule** For positions held for hours, hourly funding charges accrue in proportion to time held.
5. **Discounts** BNB cuts Binance futures fees by 10%, and EVEDEX cashback of up to 35% lowers its effective taker rate to 0.02925%.
6. **Leverage discipline** Use a fraction of the cap. Our guide to bitcoin leverage trading shows how quickly a leveraged loss grows.

## Day Trading Costs on EVEDEX

EVEDEX is a hybrid perpetual futures exchange: orders are matched off-chain, and settlement runs on-chain on Arbitrum L2. Each round trip on $10,000 costs $9 as a taker or $3 as a maker, and cashback of up to 35% on your own trades brings those to $5.85 and $1.95. Funding is calculated every 8 hours and charged hourly, so an intraday position is charged funding for each hour it stays open. All 52 pairs, including BTC-USD, TSLA, gold and EUR/USD, trade 24/7, and orders start at 5 USDT. For traders who want a larger nominal with a capped loss, Funded Trading turns 50 USDT of margin into a 1,500 USDT trading nominal without challenges; the nominal is leverage, not capital from EVEDEX, and the product is web-only with no API. The trade-offs are thinner books than the largest exchanges, cross margin only and no spot market. Perpetual futures carry a high risk of loss.

## FAQ

### What is the best crypto exchange for day trading?

The best crypto exchange for day trading is the one where your round trips cost least at the size you trade and the book can fill them. On September 15, 2026, ten $10,000 taker round trips cost $90 on EVEDEX or Hyperliquid, $100 on Binance or OKX, $120 on Bitget and $1,600 on Kraken Pro spot.

### Is day trading crypto worth it?

Day trading crypto is worth it only if your average winning move clearly exceeds costs. A scalper targeting 0.15% on a $5,000 position earns $7.50 gross, while a taker round trip at 0.045% per side costs $4.50, leaving $3 before losses. With limit orders at 0.015%, the cost drops to $1.50.

### Can you make money day trading crypto?

Some traders make money, but fees, slippage and leverage work against every trade. Twenty $10,000 taker round trips a day for 30 days cost $5,400 at 0.045% per side and $7,200 at 0.06%, before a single losing trade. A strategy has to beat that cost consistently, which is why most traders use limit orders.

### What is crypto day trading?

Crypto day trading means opening and closing positions within the same day to profit from short-term price moves, usually in BTC, ETH or other liquid pairs. Traders use spot markets or perpetual futures. Because crypto trades 24/7, there is no market close, so day traders set their own sessions and daily loss limits.

### Does crypto count as day trading?

Under FINRA's former pattern day trader rule, only day trades in securities within margin accounts at FINRA member brokers counted, so crypto traded on a crypto exchange fell outside it. FINRA replaced that rule with intraday margin standards effective June 4, 2026, removing the $25,000 minimum equity requirement, with a phase-in ending October 20, 2027.

### Do day trading rules apply to crypto?

The US pattern day trader rule never applied to crypto exchange accounts, and FINRA removed it for brokers on June 4, 2026. Crypto day traders still face other rules: every venue restricts some countries, and the UK Financial Conduct Authority bans the sale of crypto derivatives to retail consumers. Tax rules also apply.

### Is day trading crypto legal?

Day trading crypto is legal in many countries, but the products you can use depend on where you live. In the UK, retail consumers cannot buy crypto derivatives under an FCA ban in force since January 6, 2021. Every venue here restricts some countries, so check the terms for yours.

### How to start crypto day trading with no money?

You cannot day trade crypto without any capital, and offers of free funded accounts deserve scrutiny. Small amounts work for learning: EVEDEX accepts deposits from 6 USDT with a 5 USDT minimum order. Its Funded Trading needs at least 50 USDT of your own margin, which opens a 1,500 USDT trading nominal.

### Can you make a living day trading crypto?

Making a living from day trading requires net profit above living costs after fees, slippage, funding and taxes, month after month. At 20 round trips a day of $10,000, taker fees alone reach $5,400 to $7,200 a month on the perpetual exchanges compared. Few strategies survive that consistently, so treat trading income as uncertain.

### What are day trading prop firms?

Day trading prop firms give traders buying power after an evaluation, usually in exchange for a profit split. EVEDEX Funded Trading works differently: you post your own margin, 50 USDT for a 1,500 USDT nominal or 165 USDT for 5,000 USDT, with no challenges, 100% of profit kept and losses limited to that margin.
