## What You Need to Trade Crypto Futures

### Contract Type

EVEDEX lists perpetual futures only: contracts with no expiry date, unlike dated futures that settle on a fixed day. Our [perpetual contract](https://evedex.com/en/blog/perpetual-contract/) guide explains how they work.

### Leverage and Margin

Initial margin equals notional divided by leverage. Caps depend on the pair, from 200x on BTC, ETH and SOL up to $50,000 notional down to 10x on pre-market contracts.

### Funding Rates

Payments between longs and shorts keep a perpetual near its index price. On EVEDEX, the rate is calculated every 8 hours and charged hourly at one eighth.

### Liquidation Risk

If equity falls below maintenance margin, the position closes at the mark price with a 5% liquidation fee. Margin is cross-only, so your whole futures balance backs every position.

## Step-by-Step: Your First Futures Trade

Three steps from wallet to open position, with risk controls set before you trade.

### Fund Your Account

Connect a wallet and deposit from 6 USDT; margin is held in USDT. Instead of traditional KYC, each deposit passes an AML screening.

### Choose Pair and Leverage

Pick one of 52 perpetual pairs and set leverage within its cap. At 10x, a 1,000 USDT position reserves 100 USDT of margin.

### Place the Order with a Stop

Use a market, limit or stop-limit order and add take-profit and stop-loss. A 10,000 USDT taker order costs 4.50 USDT before cashback.

## Risk warning

Perpetual futures carry a high risk of loss: at 100x, a 1% move against you equals your initial margin, and under cross margin your whole futures balance is at risk. EVEDEX is not intended for UK retail clients. This page is not investment advice.

## Common Questions

### What is the difference between crypto futures and spot trading?

Spot trading means buying and owning the coin. Futures let you trade its price, long or short, with leverage and without owning it. EVEDEX has no spot market: all 52 pairs are perpetual futures, and a leveraged position can be liquidated if the market moves against you.

### How much capital do I need to start trading crypto futures?

On EVEDEX the minimum deposit is 6 USDT and the minimum order is 5 USDT on every pair. Starting small lets you learn order types, margin and funding before adding size; with leverage, even a small position can lose its whole margin quickly.

### Can I lose more money than I deposit when trading futures?

What you put at risk is the margin in your futures balance, and under cross margin all of it backs every open position. The engine liquidates when equity falls below maintenance margin and charges a 5% fee; if a position cannot close at its bankruptcy price, auto-deleveraging settles the shortfall.

### What does 10x leverage mean in crypto futures trading?

With 10x leverage, every 1 USDT of margin controls 10 USDT of position, so a 5% price move becomes a 50% gain or loss on margin. On EVEDEX, initial margin equals notional divided by leverage: 10x on a 1,000 USDT position reserves 100 USDT.

### How do funding rates affect my crypto futures positions?

Funding payments pass between longs and shorts to keep a perpetual near its index price. If the rate is positive, longs pay shorts; if negative, shorts pay longs. On EVEDEX, the rate is calculated every 8 hours and charged hourly at one eighth, so it adds up on longer holds.
