What XAUTUSD is, and what it is not

A perpetual contract priced against Tether Gold, settled in USDT, with no metal changing hands at any point.

Priced on Tether Gold

One XAUT represents one troy ounce of physical gold held in a vault in Switzerland by TG Commodities Limited. Trading XAUTUSD gives you neither the bar nor the token, only the position.

No expiry, no roll

The contract never settles, so there is no delivery month to roll and no session calendar. Funding is calculated every 8 hours and charged hourly at one eighth of the rate.

Leverage in stated tiers

100x applies to positions up to $30,000 of notional, then 90x up to $101,000 and 50x up to $386,000. Margin is cross only and denominated in USDT.

What is missing

There is no spot XAU, no XAUUSD listing, no gold options and no physical delivery. Gold sits here as one pair among 52 perpetuals, not as a metals desk.

Sign in with a wallet, email or social account and deposit from 6 USDT. There is no traditional KYC; deposits pass automated AML screening with Chainalysis.

Size the contract

Quantity moves in steps of 0.001 XAUT and the price in steps of 0.1, with a minimum order of 5 USDT. Margin is notional divided by the leverage you choose.

A resting limit order pays 0.015%, a market order 0.045%, so a 5,000 USDT taker order costs 2.25 USDT. Cashback of up to 35% reduces that further.

How deep the EVEDEX gold book is

Round-the-clock hours are the argument here; depth is where larger venues still win.

CoinMarketCap recorded $14.38M of open interest on EVEDEX XAUT-USD on September 21, 2026, with $9.99M of 24-hour volume; CoinGecko measured a 0.01% spread on September 15. Other venues listing a Tether Gold perpetual were larger on that CoinGecko snapshot of September 15: MEXC at $336.9M of open interest, Gate at $124.0M and Bybit at $117.3M, with Binance at $34.8M. CoinGecko also valued Tether Gold itself at $4,282.89 with 622,823.66 XAUT in circulation. The practical trade-off is simple: a thinner book than the majors, but no weekend close and one USDT account for gold and 51 other markets.

Gold trading questions, answered

XAUTUSD is a perpetual futures contract on EVEDEX priced against Tether Gold, where one XAUT represents one troy ounce of physical gold held in a Swiss vault by TG Commodities Limited. The contract is margined in USDT and never expires, so nothing is delivered or settled in metal.

No. XAUUSD is the spot gold quote offered by forex brokers, usually as a CFD. EVEDEX does not list XAUUSD at all; it lists one perpetual contract priced on Tether Gold, margined in USDT and open 24/7, where a broker's gold market closes for the weekend.

No. Trading XAUTUSD gives you a position, not a bar and not XAUT tokens. Profit and loss settle in USDT on your EVEDEX balance. Anyone who wants the metal itself, or the token itself, needs a bullion dealer or a venue that sells XAUT directly.

The contract trades 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no session breaks and no delivery months. Exchange-listed gold futures and broker gold markets both pause for sessions, holidays and the weekend, which is the main practical reason traders look at a perpetual.

Up to 100x on positions worth up to $30,000 of notional, then 90x up to $101,000 and 50x up to $386,000. The cap falls as the position grows. At 100x a 1% adverse move in the gold price is enough to consume the initial margin.

Fees are capped at 0.015% maker and 0.045% taker before cashback and apply only to executed orders, so a 5,000 USDT taker order costs 2.25 USDT. Cashback of up to 35% on your own trades lowers the effective rates to 0.00975% and 0.02925%.

Funding keeps the perpetual close to its underlying price and passes directly between longs and shorts, with EVEDEX taking no side. It is calculated every 8 hours for the pair and charged hourly at one eighth of the rate, weekends included, so a held position pays or earns it.

It is small next to the majors. CoinMarketCap recorded $14.38M of open interest and $9.99M of 24-hour volume on XAUT-USD on September 21, 2026, against $336.9M at MEXC and $117.3M at Bybit on CoinGecko’s September 15 snapshot. A $500,000 ADL Protection Reserve has run since July 18, 2026.
